Dear Struggling Mama,
Yeah, you. I know you feel like you’re failing
sometimes, that you’ve really messed up this mothering thing and want a
do-over. I’m here to tell you, you’re not. You’re not messing up. You’re not
failing. You’re doing a great job. I know sometimes you feel like you don’t
measure up. Your friend breastfed until their baby was 2 years old, but your
baby was never able to latch. Social media tells you that if you aren’t cloth
diapering and feeding your baby all organic foods, you’re a big fat failure.
The mommy wars are never ending. As much as we’d all love them to be, there is
always something, or someone, out there that is going to make you feel
inadequate.
You’re not.
You wake up at the slightest whimper, and scurry to
make sure your little one is okay. You run to the kitchen and mix up a bottle
while your baby cries for you to hurry, and you’re going as fast as you can.
You snuggle up close and you work with them to try and get them to latch so
they’ll have a good feeding. Whatever way you are feeding your baby, you’re
doing just that, feeding them. You’re a great mother.
The little one is restless, so you stay up extra late
and rock him until his eyes finally flutter shut. It doesn’t matter if that
baby is in a cloth diaper, or a disposable one. You’re a great mother.
You still haven’t done that laundry that’s been
piling up for weeks, and there are bags under your eyes. You wonder how your
husband even finds you attractive anymore. But you are attractive, and you’re
such a great mother (and wife!)
You got frustrated and you raised your voice at your
toddler that just wouldn’t stop running and screaming down the hall. Guess
what? Completely normal. That toddler still loves you, you want them to be well-behaved. You’re a great
mother.
You’re making another frozen pizza for dinner because
you’re just too tired to cook. You’re feeding your family, and you’re a great
mother.
Your little one fell down and scraped their leg. You
ran to them and scooped them up. Told them they would be okay. Kissed the
boo-boo and put a Scooby-Doo Band-Aid on it. So maybe it wasn’t an organic
bandage, you’re a great mother!
Don’t ever feel like a failure. You love your babies,
you want what’s best for them, you take care of them day and night, and you
always put them before yourself. God hand-picked you to raise these children. You are more than enough, you are loved, YOU
are a great mother!
Hugs and Love,
